How To Spend Your Veteran's Day

Photo by Davitydave on Flickr 9:30 A.M.-11:00 A.M. Emerson Action Day Hale House Community Service The Office of Off Campus Student Services is sponsoring Emerson Action Day on Veterans Day. Emerson Action Day provides multiple community service projects to volunteer for, including the Hale House. The Hale House provides rooms, meals, and care to elderly men and women in Boston regardless of their ability to pay. The residents enjoy many activities at the house and Emerson Action Day volunteers will play Family Feud with the residents during their time of service.

11:00 A.M.-1:00 P.M. Brunch at The Paramount on Beacon Hill While the line and wait for brunch at The Paramount is lengthy, the food is definitely worth it. The Paramount is also serving veterans free on Veterans Day with their military I.D.

1:00 P.M.-2:00 P.M. Boston’s Veterans Day Parade and Veterans for Peace Parade The Boston’s Veterans Day Parade kicks off at 1 P.M, starting at the corner of Boylston and Tremont and then making its way along the Boston Common to City Hall Plaza and Faneuil Hall. The parade will be shortly followed by the Veterans for Peace Parade, a group that raises awareness about the price society pays for war, as they were not allowed to participate in the traditional parade. From there, there will be speeches and music at Faneuil Hall and the City Hall Plaza.

2:00 P.M.-4:30 P.M. Quincy Market and Washington Street Shopping Holidays, even small ones like Veterans Day, always have the best sales. So, since you’re already at Faneuil Hall you should make your way over to Quincy Market for some Veterans Day deals. You can also enjoy a late lunch at Quincy and then make your way down Washington Street for even more Veterans Day discounts.

6:00 P.M.-7:30 P.M. 5th Annual Veterans Walk and Run The two mile walk and run starts at 6 P.M. at Government Center. The participants will loop around the Common and will end at the New England Center for Homeless Veterans where the participants can share a dinner table with the Veterans. The walk requires a $35 dollar personal entrance fee, offering a group discount if you do it with friends.

8:00 P.M.-10:00 P.M. Improv Asylum’s House Team Events For a $5 ticket you can go enjoy some fun and funny improv put on by Improv Asylum’s House Teams made up of students and alums of their Training Center.
