The year 2020 has been a difficult one for all, including one of the most famous and privileged families in Hollywood. Keeping up with the Kardashians has been a namesake reality tv show that has aired globally for the past fourteen years and now, after twenty long seasons, the family has announced the show will be coming to an end. Keeping Up first aired in October 2007, showcasing the family’s detailed lives amongst the richest households, relationships, as well as typical day-to-day dramas that attracted viewers from all around the world. After such a successful tv run, viewers have been questioning the family’s decision to discontinue it. Keeping Up With The Kardashians built a multi-brand empire, made a typical rich family into celebrities, connected families, and shaped the world of reality television.

According to Page Six, the decision to cancel the show was made by the leader of the pack and mother of the reality stars, Kris Jenner, after two of her daughters threatened to quit. The Kardashian-Jenner family has had its ups and downs with the television show as some stars have wanted the show to end in the past due to the time commitment the show required. Flashforward to 2020, other members now feel like they obtain enough earnings through their other businesses - such as Kylie’s cosmetics and Kim’s new Skims line. Viewers also speculated another reason for ending the show could have to do with issues concerning Kanye West’s mental health and supposed run for presidency in the 2020 elections. “There was no big reason why the family decided to end KUWTK; it was a mutual decision,” an insider told Cosmopolitan. “The kids who started the show now have their own kids and it’s getting very hard to film altogether or get enough footage separately …  The family wanted time to focus more on their family and future projects, and the show is a major job that takes up a lot of time.”

The ensemble announced the cancellation through social media along with a family photograph and a thorough message to the fans and production team that has helped keep their brand alive throughout the years. They stated, “It is with heavy hearts that we say goodbye to Keeping Up with the Kardashians. After what will be 14 years, 20 seasons, hundreds of episodes, and several spin-off shows, we’ve decided as a family to end this very special journey.  We are beyond grateful to all of you who’ve watched us for all of these years – through the good times, the bad times, the happiness, the tears, and the many relationships and children. We’ll forever cherish the wonderful memories and countless people we’ve met along the way.”. Although the show will be coming to an end, Keeping Up With The Kardashians has shaped the way audiences think and feel about reality television, as the Kardashian-Jenner family will leave a definite mark on E! and pop culture.
