Photo via Flickr Flu season is upon us. Fever, fatigue, stuffy nose, sore throat, we all know the symptoms, and we all know how debilitating and awful the flu is. The key to fighting the flu this season is making sure you get a flu shot!

Flu shots are available at a wide variety of drug stores and health clinics in the area. Here's where you can get one so that you can avoid being trapped in bed feeling terrible for days!

The Emerson College Health and Wellness Center offers immunization clinics throughout the fall semester. Upcoming dates include Wednesday, November 5, Wednesday, November 12, and Monday, November 24. It operates on a first come, first serve basis. Make sure you don’t forget to bring your Emerson ID and insurance card. Check out the Health and Wellness Center website for a complete list of immunization dates.

If you can’t make it to one of the immunization clinics at the health center, then check out one of the multiple other flu shot clinics in the area. A great tool to find immunization clinics is the HealthMap Vaccine Finder. By entering your zip code, you can check out the nearby sites with flu shots available. They include CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens. Stop by any of these drug stores and head to their pharmacy counter. They can set you up with a flu shot and most health insurance plans cover the cost.

If you feel a little unsure about getting a flu shot at a drug store you can always take a quick walk over to the Massachusetts General Hospital Walk-In Clinic. They offer immunizations Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Another option for getting a flu shot was via UberHEALTH. For one day only on October 23, UBERHEALTH made house calls and delivered flu shots on demand. Uber users were quickly and easily able to request drivers within the Uber app. Once the Uber car arrived, users received a free flu prevention pack and the ability to request a flu shot from a registered nurse. Although this opportunity has passed, this innovative idea is likely to continue. (So keep it in mind for next year!)

Head out and get your flu shot today; the tiny pinch of a needle is worth it when the alternative is lying in bed sick for a week.
