But He's a Pisces...

He’s tall, he’s handsome, he’s on his way to making six figures, you ask for his birthday.. and he’s a Pisces. Geminis are not known to be compatible with Pisces, what do you do now? According to research, 73 percent of people from ages 18 to 21 check their horoscopes daily. Most people read their horoscopes to establish meaning in their day to day and to search for answers about their future when it comes to looking and finding the person they will love forever. Those who believe in the power of astrology often find themselves overthinking about the type of people they are meant to love.

It’s 2019, and we are more technological than ever, often finding ourselves believing the internet more than our inner selves. Modern advancements question the credibility of astrology, however, the power of astrological enthusiasts still play a part when it comes to relationships. Are horoscopes affecting our choices when it comes to being in a relationship? According to Lindsey Beck, a relationship specialist at Emerson College , beliefs in astrology can affect relationships if one dwells too deep in the meaning behind it. Questions such as “how long will the relationship last?” and “will we be happy together?” cannot simply be answered by your sign; however, it can destroy a relationship if one reads too far into it. 

There’s a certain affliction that comes with letting a third party influence into a relationship.  There might come a time in which the person might choose to blame the type of person their partner was rather than their choice of dwelling too far deep into the world of astrology. 

Applications such as “Co-star” and “The Pattern” have also affected the way people feel about zodiac signs. The app “Co-star” sends daily notifications of your horoscope and connects you with your friends and families horoscopes. It has been downloaded over three million times since it first launched in 2017. “The Pattern” helps users gain insights on their personalities, has approximately 1,200 reviews and has a 4.1 star rating on the app store. This shows that people do give importance to their astrological signs and applications have taken a role in that. 

Freshman Gabriella Perez is not only fully educated in the role of astrology in our lives, but she also leans towards the effects it has on relationships. “For me personally, I like to look at people’s overall birth chart to see if we are compatible,” she said. “However, you can’t just base your entire opinion of someone based on their chart since you still have to get to know the person! It’s interesting though, because I tend to attract only to fire signs when I’m in a relationship.” 

Astrology plays a large role in many people’s lives today. Although one might believe that horoscopes can affect one’s love life, or vice versa, it is important to keep in mind that one can believe in the compatibility of an astrological sign to a certain extent or until it affects your relationship. Live in the here and now, rather than dwelling on the duality of the past and the present combined through the world of your astrological sign.
